GEO glossary
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimising a brand, its content and its off-site presence so that generative AI assistants cite, quote and recommend it inside their answers. Success is measured in share-of-voice across AI answers rather than in search rankings.
Also known as: GEO
GEO combines four things: measuring where AI already names you, optimising your owned surfaces to be quotable, earning third-party citations, and tracking share-of-voice over time. It builds on technical SEO rather than replacing it.
